Bass fishing techniques are wide and varied, and many pro anglers put their own spin on the classics to make them even more deadly. A good angler has an arsenal of techniques, and can quickly examine the fishing conditions and decide which lures to implement for maximum success.

Learning the many different bass fishing techniques will not only make you a better fisherman, it will increase the enjoyment you get from fishing for these feisty sport fish. There are numerous methods that can be extremely effective in landing you the biggest bass you’ve ever caught.

Here are 3 little known bass fishing techniques that the pros have kept to themselves:

1. Top To Bottom (aka “Search and Destroy”)

When employing the “top to bottom” technique, you’ll break the water into 3 depths. Surface to 3 feet below, 3 feet below to 8 feet below, and 8 feet to bottom.

Each depth, or layer, gets fished with a plastic worm until you get a strike. Once you get a strike, you stay with that layer and begin to try new lures and rigs until you find one that is getting lots of action.

You’ll stay in that “layer”, with that rig, until you have no action for 60 minutes. You then repeat the process, finding the “hot layer” once again. This technique is extremely effective. In effect, you’ve become a “human fishfinder”!

2. Going Deep

This technique is all about fishing deep areas that other fishermen seldom touch. It’s fished with a Carolina Rig. A Carolina Rig consists of a heavy weight, followed by a swivel leader and a Texas rigged soft bait.

The fisherman casts into areas where there are rock beds, dock pylons, and other underwater structure, letting the weight sink to the bottom. The rig is retrieved in a slow, twitching fashion.

This gives the appearance of a worm or other bottom feeder slowly inching it’s way along the lake floor. Bass that are hanging low will be attracted to the motion and hit hard.

3. The Floating Spoon

This is a one of the least known, yet most effective bass fishing techniques I have ever had the pleasure of using. The ideal conditions are fairly clear to very clear water and water temperatures below 50 degrees.

The rig consists of a bobber followed by 6-8 feet of line and a lure of choice. Personally, I think big, colorful crankbaits or flashy spoons work best.

When you cast, your lure will sit suspended in the water below your bobber. This is very effective in lower water temperatures because the bass are very slow and lethargic.

You’ll want to use a very slow retrieval and just let your lure cruise along slowly underwater. You won’t have to worry about depth, because the bobber will keep it constant. You’ll be amazed at how many bass you’ll catch with this technique.

Learning a multitude of bass fishing techniques will most definitely produce more bass. More importantly, you need to know which techniques to employ in different conditions. Something that works well in warm, cloudy water won’t be necessarily be as effective as in colder, clear water.

These are things that took the pros years of experience to learn. However, you can get this information right away. Tips like these and other fantastic insider bass fishing techniques can be found in Bass Fishing Extreme.

What lure or bait should I use to reel in Largemouth Bass?Catfish?

I ‘ve been fishing a few times and i’ve caught some Largemouth Bass, never catfish. I’ve heard some people say that liver is a good bait to use to reel in catfish. Do you know of anymore lures or baits i can use to catch Largemouth Bass or Catfish? Thank You for your help!

Answer
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aq6FyKO8BGBSfoa3yAAxdtVSxQt.;_ylv=3?qid=20090522081009AA31iN4

catfish eat anything that smells good to them. that being said if to us it stinks bad they will probably like it. but if I have to fish for catfish (and it is not my cup of tea) I use kentucky fried chicken skin I cut it into 1 inch squares and put three or four on a hook. they seem to like it on every water i have used it in from so cal to ohio.

There is no secret when fishing for big bass. Just simple techniques that will catch you more bass and bigger bass every time you go out no matter what the fishing conditions are like. Hooking a great big old bass is one thing, but actually catching the bass without it breaking your line or getting loose is a totally different story. Bass are famous for having a bad temper they often strike or feed on something that is annoying to them. They are a very aggressive fish and 80% of the time that they strike your lure it is a reaction, the other 20% is actually hunger! So in other words if you piss them off you will get a strike. When fishing for bass try to use something that is an attention grabber. My personal favorite when fishing for big bass in new lakes is a big old multi – colored spinner bait. The spinner bait is a very effective bass fishing tool it grabs the bass attention and entices them to strike on reaction and not hunger leaving you with a more active fish and often a much bigger bass as opposed to live bait fishing.

Imagine… You are in the perfect fishing hole, with more than ideal conditions. The water color, temperature, wind, cover and structures surrounding you… just too perfect for the Largemouth Bass. You examine the surrounding area quietly, and observe underwater logs, rocks and weed growth along the banks. He’s nearby. He has to be, this is my chance, it’s perfect. You have no doubt that the 14 pound Trophy Bass that you have been searching for is within your reach. Yet, cast after cast, you just can’t seem to get a strike. What would you do? Consider it a bad day and move on? Guess what… You probably just lost your Trophy Bass.

Largemouth Bass are tough fish to catch, they know how to play the game you really have to get into the mind of this fish to be able to catch it. Knowing where and how to catch Largemouth Bass requires deep understanding that can take you years to master. A couple tips for the next time you arrive in the perfect fishing hole. Start with something noisey like a buzz bait or a spinner bait or a lure that stays on the surface of the water, a real attention grabber make sure to comb the area thouroghly. After that is done and you still have not cought your 14lb trophy bass its time to step it up a notch, whatever you do don’t move to a new spot because you think there are no bass there.Your wrong!!! A simple change in technique will land you that 14lb bass of your dreams. Switch that spinner bait or buzz bait to a 7 inch white plastic worm something along the lines of a slugo bait, It has to be white. Now comb that same area with a very slow twitching retreive. Remember when i said 80% of strikes are aggression strikes and the other 20% are hunger strikes. Well you know that there are no aggressive bass there because you thouroghly casted your spinner bait in the area. Now try a slow twitching retreive with the white plastic worm in the same area and you are going to catch that hungry bass. Most often the hungry bass are the big mama’s, and there you go you now have your 14lb trophy bass from a spot that you were going to leave. It is simple techniques like these that will catch you more bass and bigger bass every time you go fishing.

BASS FISHING HELP!!!!?

I fish in a lake that is home to tons and tons of largemouth bass. For some reason though I can’t catch them. I try Rapala Lures, all shapes, colors and sizes, berkleys gulp minnow, jitterbugs, and rebel crawfish. I can’t get the bass to eat anything… The lake also has tons of weeds and plants in the water. Does anybody know some good baits and other lures that will catch me fish??

-Thank

Answer
I’ve honestly found for fishing a pond or small lake with large mouth bass think simple when looking for a lure. Especially if this lake doesn’t have any boats or disturbances don’t get a noisy lure, it scares the hell out of them. Today I went fishing and used a $1.99 lure from walmart that was a little baby small and hooked 11 around 1 foot long just under and just over a pound large mouth bass. It was simple, yet caught there eye but did not scare them. Think simple.

Answer
one of the best fishing days of my life was using one half inch square long slices of bacon on a golf course and rigged split shot and presented like a worm was deadly. The lady who ran the repair department at Daiwa took me to Skylinks Golf Course and and she brought and taught me that trick. In spring though while standing way back out of the bass’ horizon i have caught hundreds on grubs. The secret is staying way back so you don’t spook the bass and shut off the bite before you even get started. Big gator tail worms and lizards I use as well. Never let any light (or the moon) be on your back allowing a shadow moving on the water as well.
