How to catch Largemouth Bass with lures
Largemouth bass fishing lures widely-used to tempt largemouth bass and small mouth bass plus other fish like striped bass, white bass or (sand bass),and crappie. Lures useful for largemouth bass fishing are of the many types including plastic lures formed like frogs and fish, crawdad, worms to jigs, spoons, and crank bait’s,jig-and-pig’s and spinner baits.
Largemouth bass fishing lures are chosen according to the season, the location and the kind of fishing you intend to perform, which would explain the variety of models available. The best largemouth bass fishing lures are plastic worms, jigs, crank baits, spinner baits, grubs, poppers, tube baits, as well as vibrating lures. Plastic worms are an easier item to fish with than live worms. The only problem is that you need to have a slow retrieve because a largemouth bass will not hit a fast moving worm. Its not natural and they wont hit it.When you cast a worm bait let it settle and pull up with your rod just a little.Let your rod tip down and reel in the slack.Do that again and if you feel a tap set the hook because you just got a bite. If the water is murky or if you fish at night, you’d better rely on jigs because they look like a fish going through the water. If the water temp is below 60 degrees and murky to clear water you can use lighter jigs.Use a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jig.Fish with a slow retrieve. In murky or deep water or heavy cover, with submerged timber, use heavier jigs. With 3/8 to 5/8 ounce jigs with stout fishing rod and reel.
Spring fishing
Early in the year the largemouth bass and many if not all fish begin to spawn. This is the best time for you to go fishing. From late Febuary to March to early April look for nice warm days. The best way to find what they are”biting”go to a marina or a bait stand and ask, they will be glad to assist you.Especially should you buy something.Or check the local newspaper for fishing news.
. As water temperatures warm, bass begin to move from deep water, to shallower warmer water. What this means is after a few warm day’s largemouth bass will start to move onto any shallow flats seeking warmer water. So, instead of focusing on deep water cover, early in the spring look for places underwater that have humps and shallower water than you would do in the fall or winter. Since the water temperature rises largemouth bass will move to the warmer water. A good old fisherman’s advice is when you see turtles on logs sunning themselves you can catch largmouth bass shallow. But not too shallow as the fish in the shallow are usually the smaller males. The females dont get on the nest untill the water temp is just right. And you will miss some big largemouth bass if you fish too close in.And if you dont get the spawn then you will have a harder job finding largemouth bass as they move out looking for food.
Summer fishing
Bass fishing lures in many cases are used in the middle of the afternoon, when the bass retreat to cooler waters. Bass often have very definite patterns for where they are going to be, depending on the time of day. Therefore, those thinking about choosing the proper bass fishing lures should observe these very predictable patterns. Suspended lures usually are retrieved faster than other kinds of lures, but each situation might be slightly different. Top water bass fishing lures are some of the most exciting in the minds of many anglers. With these lures, it is actually possible not just to feel the strike, but see it as well. This type of anticipation and action usually results in a heart-pounding experience as each side, the angler and also the fish, prepare to try and do battle with one another. Topwater bass fishing lures include those built to seem like fish or other aquatic life moving at or close to the surface. Its really easy to fish with this lure as most of them are weedless.Because you will be fishing in lilly pads and other cover. Also many lakes have trees in the shallow end of the lake, causing cover for the largmouth bass. After the spring spawn you will do better to fish early in the morning and late afternoon untill dark.
