Marine fish finders are high-tech gadgets that can help you locate fish through new age technology. Have you have ever wasted an entire day looking for a good place to start fishing, only to realize there was nothing there all along? If so, you can appreciate the idea of a marine fish finding device. How does such a product work?

Fish finders are actually fathometers, which operate via echo sounding and active sonar technology. Marine fish finders send out an electrical impulse from a transmitter which is then converted into a sound wave. It is sent to the water and will strike against objects, sending back information on the object’s size, composition and shape. From the data it relates, you can deduce whether or not the object is something stationary or perhaps a living fish.

The accuracy of such a device will depend on the power of the system and pulse it sends out. The data that it sends back will be displayed on a monitor. This device could help fishermen cut their searching time in half, leaving them more time to concentrate on catching their trophies. Some high-priced Marine fish finders may also be able to show depth and sound, as well as chart plotting data, and electronic compasses. Some fish finders can be connected to a radar navigation device for even more accurate fishing expeditions.

Keep in mind that some marine fish finders are cheap for a reason. They may only offer location information so that you can keep track of your moving patterns and your coordinates. After all, some products are less than $100. However, other devices can be $1,000 or more, presumably because they actually offer a fathometer and GPS technology combined. Some models of marine fish finders may be complex to learn, while others remain relatively simple, perhaps just like an ordinary GPS car device.

You may notice that some models have LCD screens while others have CRT screens. Are there any advantages or disadvantages that come from one or the other? Unlike with television sets, LCD displays for fish finders are actually cheaper than CRT screens. In addition, LCDs are usually waterproof and less fragile overall. The main advantages of CRTs are that they can produce a clearer picture. However, they are also more easily prone to breaking and water damage.

Obviously budget is a concern when choosing your marine fish finders. Some would rather invest in other products, electronic and perishable, so that they can focus more on natural fishing than put too much into high-tech devices. You do have to walk a fine line here. After all, fishing finders do not help improve your technique; they merely prevent you from wasting too much time in one unproductive spot. You could look into black and white or grayscale screens if you are looking to save money.

Marine fish finders do help to make your fishing expedition more enjoyable and far more products. For more information on where to find these finders, look up marine retailers or type in the name of the model you are interested in for some reviews.

Fishing used to be a means of survival, now it has become a popular sport and past time all around the world. From deep sea fishing to river and lake varieties, people enjoy fishing as a competitive sport, solo activity or family bonding experience, often during vacations and travel holidays. Auto GPS units have become popular with the technical advancements of vehicles. It used to be that auto GPS units were reserved for special government related, military and security systems. In our advanced world, it is now common for auto GPS units to come standard on most new vehicles.

Technology hasnt stopped with cars, though, fishing has become high tech, too. One such example of high technology fishing equipment is the GPS fish finder. This instrument helps fisherman find the animals they hunt, all credited to sonar transmitters. The word sonar is actually an acronym for Sound Navigation Ranging. Developed during World War Two to track enemy submarine fleets, a sonar has a transmitter, receiver, transducer and display, all of which translate to a device that is readable and serves the purpose of tracking various moving objects, in the case of fishing, fish.

A GPS fish finder locates swimming animals by sending an electrical impulse from the transmitter, converted into a sound wave by the transducer, which then travels through water en rout to a single fish or perhaps school of a specific species. Of course finding a school of fish is the more preferable of the two if you are a sports fisherman. As the sound wave continues to travel, it hits a fish or school or other swimming animal, bounces back and is displayed on the GPS fish finder screen.

These high tech electronics are often seen on television shows such as Discovery Channel, also on the same networks popular special programming Shark Week. Again, you dont have to be a commercial fisherman to have access to these devices anymore, now such systems are available to average Joe leisure fisherman.

While a marine GPS Unit is a handy toy to fish with, it still does not make a fish take the bait. It can find the fish, though, and so the marine GPS unit is a hit among serious competitors within the world of sports fishing. Just like driving your car to a grocery store you have never been to, with a marine GPS unit, a boat can get navigational direction to a body of waters specific coordinates so that bountiful fishing is more likely.

Adding GPS to boat will the depth finder interfere with fish finder?

Adding a gps/depth to boat. The boat has a fishfinder on it already. Will the two transducers interfere with each other?

Answer
i added a Garmin unit that has a fishfinder which works better than the old fishfinder. the transducers will not interfer if you mount them several feet apart.

What is the best GPS / Fish Finder Available?

Answer
We’ve got a Hummin’bird and it does it’s job, howwwever if finances were available I go with a Lowrance. In my opinion only, they be 1 of the best. Link is for Lowrance Corp., itself. Page gives ya’ the different models they put out, but not prices (maybe MSRP?). Bass Pro and Cabela’s carry them if ya’ want to go the Internet way (which means Shipping & Handeling), or you can just check out some of your store outlets, maybe Walmart and or Tackle Shops.
