10 lures you would never go largemouth bass fishing without? Thanx?

Just curious what people are using that maybe i should try.
like colors and stuff. just curious 2 c what people are tryin.

Answer
Where I fish, i catch small and largemouth bass but if you can catch small mouth you’ll have no probablem catching largemouth.

1. 5′ Yamamoto senko, wacky rig. Various different colours to choose from, if your fishing clear water bright colors like whites, reds, chartrueses. In a dirtier water fish with dark colours like blacks, browns, green pumpkin. If the water you fish is just a tad dirty you could really go with ethier, i fish that type of water(mostly) and i use brown and green pumpkin with a bright coloured flake. Adn also use a 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook and sweep set for best results…gave quite a bit of info on this perticular bait because for me it is the best thing going.(fish weedbeds, they are somewhat weedless)

2. Tube jigs, great for fishing structure, i.e. docks, downed trees, large submerged rocks.. if your fishing in water that is 15 feet or less use a 4′ tube with a 1/4oz hook, 15 feet or deeper a 5′ tube with a 1/2oz hook. Color scheme- same as the senkos.

3. Slash baits/Jerk baits, great way to find fish quickly if fishing unfirmilliar territory. The rapala X-Rap is a great slash bait.

4. Spinnerbait/Buzzbaits, ripping a spinnerbait threw weedbeds is a great way to target bigger fish.

5. Your deep cranks, basic crank bait. The new stirke king sexy shad is deadly!

6. Jigging spoons for fishing deep structure.. 1/2 through 1 oz works great depending on how deep.

7. If your fishing early morning, topwater.. doesn’t really matter, popper/propbaits/skitterpops/topwater frogs… point is make some noise and a disterbance on top of the water.

8. Flukes and other plastics(i.e grubs, swimbaits)

9. Not a lure, more advice. GOOD line! Good quality braid or florocarbon line. Study up on this subject theres a lot to learn and its all worth it!

10. The GREATEST thing you can bring with you when your fishing is confidence! Confidence, use momentum from any fish you catch and put it into every cast! Especially when fishing under pressure, in tournements. I have it wirtten in marker across my tackle box!

Don’t leave the house with out confidence and anyone of those lures and your bound to get into some beauties! Enjoy.

When it comes to late fall and winter bass fishing, waters can be just above freezing making bass very slow and lethargic. In order to catch bass at this time of year you need to size down and slow down in order to entice them to bite. There are many techniques and lures out there that can be used in order to catch these bass, but one lure that has fallen off the radar over the years and deserves more popularity then it gets is the hair jig. These lures work great for cold water situations and have been know to catch bass in waters with a temperature between 35 and 40 degrees.

Hair jigs are one of the earliest artificial lures used in the sport of angling and was extremely popular when it came to bass fishing. But when the sport of bass fishing took off in the late 60’s early 70’s, tournament anglers started using jigs with rubber skirts and trailers.

A hair jig consists of a lead sinker with a hook molded into it with natural or synthetic hair tied to the hook, it is simple in design that can catch a wide variety of species including largemouth bass. Most anglers prefer these lures with natural hair (Deer Hair) for the simple reason that deer hair is hollow and when in the water gives the lure a breathing or life like presentation. Even when the jig head isn’t moving the hair is.

Even though a lot of anglers had put this lure into their tackle boxes and had forgotten about them, they are still popular amongst anglers hunting the famous bronze back(smallmouth bass). But that doesn’t mean that they will not catch largemouth, they will.

When fishing this lure there is one presentation that works very well in cold winter water when bass are hanging around steep rocky banks and that is the pop and drop technique. Begin by positioning your boat in deep water and make a long cast to shore, let the lure fall all the way to the bottom keeping your rod tip at the 10 o’clock position. Then lower your rod tip at the same time reeling up the slack in the line, give your rod tip a slight jerk or pop back to the 10 o’clock position then let the lure fall again. Continue this pattern all the way down the rocky bank and back to the boat. If you feel a tap or see a twitch in your line, set the hook.

When fishing this technique with hair jigs, you will want to start off by using the right equipment. Recommended is a spinning outfit that consists of a medium to heavy action 6 foot graphite rod lined with 6 to 8 lb test fishing line and start off with a 1/4 oz jig. If you find yourself not getting bites with the 1/4 oz size, switch to a 1/8 oz jig head, this will allow the lure to present itself with a slower fall rate.

Give this lure a try, I think that you will be surprised what this forgotten lure can do.

As a Bass Fishing Beginner, I almost gave up on the sport due to my lack knowledge and frustration. Now I enjoy sharing my experiences with those that love to Bass Fish.

What is your favorite largemouth bass fishing lure?

Answer
My favorite lure and method of fishing it at this time is a senko type lure fished with no weight and rigged texas style with a 3 hook.If the fish are holding in deeper water I will add a 3\16 sinker to it. I prefer to use the plastics, but there are times when it pays to fish other baits.

Colors and length of the plastic worm can make a big difference on any lake you fish on. I have fished numerous lengths and colors before choosing what really works on a constant basis. How do you figure that out? I live on a small lake in Wisconsin. I have used many different techniques outside the normal live bait choices like minnows, nightcrawlers, crickets, grubs, helgramites and more. Fishing the plastic worm as a live bait look has been the key for me on this lake. Picking the right colors and the length is the next challenge. You must try many in order to find what works that day or on that particular lake. Twitching, jerking and timing along with placement will add in your success of catching Bass.

Water color is something to consider when choosing plastic worm colors to use. If the water is dark, muddy or stained, try dark colors like black, dark blue or purple. If the water is clear, use lighter or bright colors. As you know when fishing for bass there are always variations you may need to consider. I usually have several different colors in my tackle box, however I have my favorites that seem to work constantly for me.

There are many ways to fish the plastic worm. You can use a sinker or bullet weight of your choice and fish a plastic worm in deeper water. Using plastic worms as a weedless bait is ideal because you can fish in the lily pads or any kind of weeds or vegetation and not get hooked up. Fishing on top of lily pads is my favorite. Just drop the plastic worm on the top of the pads and jerk it slowly off so it drops between the pads and wait for the big swirl and the hit! Make sure you have a stiff rod and extra strength line so you can pull the fish out of the pads or weeds.

There are many rigs for the plastic worm such as Texas rigs, Carolina rigs and more. There are numerous colors and lengths of plastic worms to choose from. Finding the right color and length is the key. Sometimes lighter colors will work better than darker colors. You need to keep trying different variations in order to see which ones will catch fish on that particular day.

Using the plastic worm with no weight can be a fantastic way of locating bass. I use the keeper hook so I can fish weedless style, then tie it directly to the hook. Then toss it on pads, or logs, or any kind of structure that may hold fish. Jerk it a little and let it sink. Slowly reel the worm in and let it sink to the bottom and wait for something to hit it as it sinks. Make sure you keep the line tight so you can feel the hit. When you feel a tug or the line starts to move to the side, give it a jerk to set the hook. I try to use the sharpest hooks to get the best hook set. If you don’t set the hook immediately after you suspect a hit, the bass will spit it out. It’s very important to feel the hit in order to set the hook quickly. It does the some practice to get the feel of a plastic worm, but can be very rewarding.

Which lure is best for spring Bass fishing?

Okay, I need to figure out which lure is best for fishing in the spring or summer. I am aiming for catching largemouth bass, and I am a beginner at fishing. I have some other bait, Senko plastic worms. I would also like to know what kind of setup would be required for said lure, and how to set it up. I live in Maryland, and I fish along the Pocomoke River.
I need to know brand and color, as well as lure type (I would prefer one that dives)

Answer
You can use any of the baits that have been mentioned so far and they will catch bass. I particularly like spinnerbaits. However, if you want to be REALLY prepared for catching the most fish that you can, you should have one rod rigged with a Texas rigged purple nightcrawler. Try it, you’ll like it.
